RUSTING SOULS I & II
Rusting Souls is a restored and modified cimbalom created by Molina. It was found at a local SF salvage yard and was destroyed by the elements. After restoration he designed a hand crank hammer system. For this latest version II he designed electro-magnetic resonators and hand soldered electronic circuits which cause the strings to vibrate with infinite sustain, or drone. The Cimbalom, also known as a concert grand hammered dulcimer, was either from Hungary, Ukraine, or Russia and the early 1900’s. Most of the materials used in the modifications were also found at salvage yards as through out the bay area. Version I premiered at Transience: The Work of David Molina, at Asterisk Gallery in San Francisco, CA in 2013. Version II, was shown at the McLoughlin Gallery group exhibition Moving Images, 2015.
